RTC Group Wins "Accessible Housing - Special Judges Award" at the Master Builders Association 2009 Excellence in Housing Awards
The RTC Group is please to announce their recent succuss at the 2009 MBA Excellence in Housing Awards for taking out the “Accessible Housing – Special Judges Award” for the “Priestley Residence” Project.
Construction Manager, Mato Demir said the project was challenging yet rewarding. “The challenging aspects of this project were to complete all works while the home remained occupied. The aim was to ultimately provide uninterrupted disabled access around the home whilst avoiding a level of finish that could be considered “clinical or hospital like.” It was rewarding to be able to see the client to be remain in his home with his wife and children.
Works were undertaken in two stages and special attention to detail was applied to the installation of every finish to overcome these challenges. The finished project enhances the home, providing many great features whilst still accommodating for our clients needs. The project provides a superior level of workmanship and display the welcoming, relaxed family oriented feel we aimed to achieve.
The main focus for this addition / alteration was to allow for disabled access and still maintain a home that had a welcoming, relaxed family oriented feel. The exterior of the house was clad in Hardiplank with new black powdercoated aluminium windows. The existing tile roof was replaced with new colourbond roof and gutters. The front entry door was replaced with a new 1200mm wide automatic pivot door, which opens up to a new spotted gum timber floating floor that now covers 80% of the floor area. An impressive open plan kitchen was designed to accommodate all aspects and accessibility with stone bench tops and pocket doors. The major addition to the dwelling was the master bedroom, en-suite and walk-in robe. The new bathroom (5.4m x 3.6m) was finished with 600 x 600 floors tiles and 600 x 300 wall tiles. These wall tiles were laid in two separate panels with contrasting bond to create an architectural feature. A custom made stone top vanity was installed to accommodate two people simultaneously with flick mixers.
